Diary 3: Volunteer Day Introducing National Competitions to Schools

On Friday, September 20, 2024, my classmates and I, who were part of a volunteer activity, planned a competition promotion at several schools designated by the committee. This activity aimed to introduce the national-level competitions held by Universitas Negeri Surabaya to a wider audience. We promoted two types of competitions: MCR, aimed at junior and senior high school students, and LRP, specifically for elementary school students.

I started preparing at 5 a.m. to ensure everything was ready before gathering at 6 a.m. by the lake at Universitas Negeri Surabaya. After getting ready, I took an online ride and felt excited about the day ahead. Upon arriving at the lake, I met up with my friends who had already arrived. We gathered briefly to discuss the plan for the promotions at each school, including who would present the information and other key details.

After the short discussion, we headed to the first school. However, upon arrival, we found that the school was holding another event, so we decided to proceed directly to the second school. At the second school, we requested permission from the security guard and were directed to the principal’s office. One of my friends provided a detailed explanation of the competitions we were promoting and answered any questions. After we finished, we took a photo with the teachers there as documentation of our visit.

Once we completed the promotion at the second school, we continued to the third school. The procedure was almost the same: asking for permission, explaining the competition, and taking photos for documentation. We were delighted to see the enthusiasm from the school staff and students upon hearing about the competitions.

After finishing at the third school, we returned to campus because we had our second class at 1 p.m. Before class began, we took some time to eat at the campus food court. The atmosphere was cheerful, and we shared stories about the day's experiences, including funny moments and challenges we encountered during the promotions.

Once the class was over, I took an online ride back to my boarding house. Upon arriving, I cleaned up and continued with my activities, such as eating and completing the assignments that needed to be done. Even though I felt physically tired after a full day of activities, it was a fulfilling day because we successfully carried out the promotions and received positive support from the schools. This volunteer activity not only provided valuable experience but also strengthened the bond with my classmates, making us more united and ready for future challenges.
