Diary 7: A Meaningful Day of Learning and Friendship

On Monday, October 14, 2024, I started my day by waking up at 3 a.m. for suhoor. That day, I planned to observe a make-up fast since I still had a few days to make up for from Ramadan due to four days of menstruation. After finishing my suhoor meal, I performed the Fajr prayer and then took a moment to relax, enjoying the quiet early morning while preparing for the day ahead.

By 6:30 a.m., I was getting ready for my morning class. As usual, I took out my laptop and prepared the materials for my first lecture, which was scheduled to be online. However, at 7 a.m., we received word from our lecturer that he couldn’t attend due to illness, so the class was canceled. Although a bit disappointed, I decided to make good use of the free time by tidying up my dorm room. I swept the floor, made my bed, and ensured everything was neatly organized. This activity refreshed my mind and made the room feel more comfortable.

After cleaning, I relaxed until around 10:30 a.m., then started preparing to head to campus. My second class was scheduled for 1 p.m., so I booked an online ride around 12:35 p.m., as usual. Upon arriving at the campus, I went straight to the Mathematics Department building, where I met some classmates. We entered the classroom together, sharing a few laughs to lighten the mood, then found empty seats. Inside, more of our friends had already gathered, and the atmosphere in the classroom was filled with warmth and excitement.

The second class ended at 3 p.m., and we decided to find a spot to relax around the campus. We walked toward the canteen, where two friends went to buy food while the rest of us waited in a shaded area. When they returned, we regrouped and enjoyed our time together. I, who was fasting, chose to wait while enjoying the moment with them. After they finished eating, a few friends and I who hadn’t prayed yet decided to head to a prayer space in the discussion room to perform the Asr prayer.

Once we were done, we rejoined the rest of our friends and chatted for a while. At around 4:30 p.m., two friends and I attended a training meeting for the upcoming campus competition where we would serve as supervisors. Friends who were not involved in the committee decided to head home. During the meeting, we were not only briefed on our duties but also given the chance to try out some of the games that would be featured in the competition. It was fun and exciting, and we felt more prepared for our tasks.

As Maghrib approached, we heard the call to prayer, and I took the opportunity to break my fast with a bottle of water I had brought from my dorm. After the meeting concluded, my friends and I headed to the campus canteen to get some food. I bought a filling meal while my two friends only bought drinks. Once we were done at the canteen, we decided to walk back home, enjoying the cool, calm evening atmosphere. One of my friends who lived far from campus chose to come over to my dorm first to wait for her ride.

When we arrived at my dorm, I invited her in, and we decided to spend some time watching a movie together. I opened my laptop, and we picked a favorite movie, enjoying our time together until about 8:30 p.m. At that point, her older sibling arrived to pick her up, so she said her goodbyes and headed home. I felt happy to have spent the day filled with meaningful activities, whether learning, socializing, or relaxing.

After my friend left, I took some time to unwind, preparing myself for bed. I felt quite tired but content because the day had been full of rewarding activities and warm moments with friends. With a heart full of gratitude, I closed my eyes, reflecting on all the pleasant memories from the day. It had truly been a memorable day, and I looked forward to embracing the upcoming days with the same enthusiasm.
