Diary 6: A Day Full of Joy and Memories with Friends

On Thursday, October 10, 2024, my classmates and I had planned a special gathering at one of our friend’s houses in Sidoarjo. We had actually been preparing for this get-together for a week, filled with enthusiasm and careful planning. After eagerly anticipating it, the long-awaited day finally arrived. Initially, we planned to head to Sidoarjo after finishing our first class in the morning.

That day, I woke up extra early, at precisely 3 a.m., to have suhoor. I intended to observe a make-up fast for the four days I had missed during Ramadan due to menstruation. After enjoying my meal, I rested for a bit before preparing to head to campus. However, not long after, we received news from our first lecturer that he could not attend class due to illness. This news changed our plans; we decided to leave for my friend’s house in Sidoarjo earlier than planned. With excitement, we agreed to meet on campus at 9 a.m. as our meeting point.

I ordered an online motorcycle taxi to take me to campus. Once I arrived, I sat and waited for the others who were still on their way. Soon, one by one, they arrived, and we were finally complete. Since my father still hadn’t allowed me to ride my own motorcycle, I decided to ride along with a friend. The trip started smoothly, but unexpectedly, we had a minor accident when turning at a junction near campus. Our motorcycle slipped, and we both fell. Fortunately, no one was hurt, and after making sure we were okay, we continued our journey.

The journey from Surabaya to Sidoarjo was quite long and tiring, but we finally arrived at our friend’s house. We were warmly welcomed by her family, who greeted us with smiles and hospitality. As soon as we stepped inside, we started having fun together. We spent the whole day playing various entertaining games, filled with laughter and jokes. My friend’s family even prepared a variety of delicious dishes. Although I had to refrain from joining them in the meal due to my fast, I still felt happy seeing my friends enjoy the food that had been prepared with so much care.

As the evening approached, after having a wonderful time together, we decided it was time to head home. When we were saying our goodbyes, my friend’s family, who had been so kind, even gave me food and drinks for breaking my fast on the way home. I was very touched by their generosity. As we began our journey back, the call to prayer for Maghrib sounded. I took the opportunity to break my fast with the refreshing drink I had been given. It felt so rejuvenating after a whole day of fasting.

When I finally reached my boarding house, I immediately took ablution to perform Maghrib prayer. After praying, I sat down for a moment to enjoy the food my friend’s family had packed for me. That evening, I felt truly satisfied, not just because of the meal I had, but also because of a day filled with companionship and joy.

After eating, I continued my evening by relaxing while studying, checking on a few assignments, and playing some games to unwind. When my eyes began to feel heavy, I decided to call it a night, reflecting on the beautiful memories of the day. Although it was a tiring day, my heart felt so happy, filled with warmth and sweet memories with my friends. A perfect day to remember and cherish in the days to come.
